Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators (BOTOX being the most widely known) are the most popular cosmetic treatment worldwide, and are providing safe and consistent results when delivered by experienced and skilled injectors, like Dr. Panoutsopoulou. BOTOX is a purified protein which was approved for cosmetic care treatments by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002.
What It Treats
Neuromodulators are used to remove facial wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes (crow’s feet), relaxing the muscles responsible for the development of lines. By knowing precisely which muscles to relax with an injection of BOTOX, an experienced doctor can contour the face; for example, lift the corners of the mouth or eyes, smooth the neck muscles or reshape the eyebrows, creating new, more pleasing, symmetrical arches.
How It Works
Each time you smile, laugh or frown, the tiny muscles under your skin contract, forming wrinkles. Over time, these wrinkles deepen. Neuromodulators work by blocking impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles. The muscles stop contracting, and relax, leaving the overlying skin unwrinkled and smooth.
What the Treatment Involves
Treatments involve injections of neuromodulator (BOTOX) into the muscle. A very fine needle is used. No anesthesia is required, although the treatment area is sometimes numbed with a cold pack.
The injections take a few minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. The effects of the treatment may not be visible for four to seven days. The nerve blockage gradually wears off, so treatments need to be repeated, usually every three to six months.
Within a few days, the treated muscles will gradually become relaxed, producing a natural, youthful and smoother appearance.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injectable materials used to restore or add volume and fullness to the face, thus reducing wrinkles and helping to reshape the face. There are several types of dermal fillers; each of them has unique properties and indications.
What It Treats
Dermal fillers are used to smooth out a variety of facial wrinkles, including laugh lines, wrinkles between the eyebrows, nasolabial folds and around the mouth (“smoker’s lines”). Some are also used to minimize acne scars and to augment and reshape the cheeks and lips.
How It Works
There are several types of fillers. Hyaluronic acid products act by attracting and binding water molecules to the filler, an action that helps add and maintain volume. The calcium hydroxyl apatite fillers form a scaffold for new collagen to grow around.
These fillers have a proven record of safety and efficacy, with results that are visible immediately after treatment and last 6 months to 2 years, depending on the product used.
What the Treatment Involves
Dermal filler treatments involve injecting tiny amounts of the filler into the skin with an ultrafine needle or an atraumatic cannula to lift and fill out the skin. A topical or local anesthetic is sometimes used to control any discomfort during the injections. Depending on which part of your face is being treated, the procedure can take from 15 to 30 minutes. You can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. Mild swelling or redness may be present at the injection site for one to two days.
Fillers can be used alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as BOTOX, LASER skin resurfacing and chemical peels.
Dr. Panoutsopoulou offers several kinds of dermal fillers. All are safe and effective. After your evaluation, she will discuss with you which filler is right for your skin type and needs.

Chemical Peels
During these skin rejuvenation treatments, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, removing the old skin cells and revealing an underlayer of skin with a smoother, less wrinkled and more even appearance.
What It Treats
Chemical peels treat fine lines and help reduce deeper wrinkles caused by sun damage or aging. Mild scarring and certain types of acne also can be treated with chemical peels, as can freckles, age spots, melasma and other pigmented skin lesions.
Chemical peels are often used to enhance the results of other skin care treatments, such as LASER skin resurfacing and dermal fillers.
How It Works
Chemical peels work by exfoliating the damaged outer skin layers, and stimulating a rapid cell turnover, to give a brightened, smooth and refreshed appearance. The depth of the peel depends on the particular chemical used and how it’s applied.
What the Treatment Involves
Before a chemical peel treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleansed with a special agent to remove surface oils. The peeling solution is then applied to the treatment area. During the treatment you may feel a slight prickling or itching sensation. Once the peel is neutralized the sensation subsides.
After the treatment you may experience some mild facial redness and swelling. You can immediately return to your normal daily activities.
There are chemical peels available for all skin types. The most commonly used chemical peels include alpha and beta hydroxy acids (glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid), retinoic acid, trichloroacetic acid and Jessner peel.
Dr. Panoutsopoulou will discuss with you which peel is indicated for your individual concerns and skin type, to achieve the best results.
Medical Micro Needling (Dermaroller/Dermapen)
LASER therapy is a safe and effective revolutionary medical technology for treating wrinkles, age spots, red and brown discoloration, facial and leg blood vessels, scars and other skin problems. New advances have made LASERs remarkably precise, and they are now a preferred method of treatment for many skin conditions.
The Dermaroller therapy is an established and one of the most successful minimally invasive treatments for skin tightening, improving skin texture and scar therapy. During this treatment the roller’s micro-needles stimulate the deeper layers of your skin to produce collagen, an important substance for healthy and youthful skin.
Dermaroller can be combined with other rejuvenating treatments such as chemical peels and BOTOX.

LASER Therapy
LASER therapy is a safe and effective revolutionary medical technology for treating wrinkles, age spots, red and brown discoloration, facial and leg blood vessels, scars and other skin problems. New advances have made LASERs remarkably precise, and they are now a preferred method of treatment for many skin conditions.
What It Treats
LASERs treat a variety of skin conditions that previously required more extensive procedures. They are used to resurface sun–damaged skin, reducing or erasing fine lines and uneven pigmentation, including freckles and age spots. LASERs also enhance skin by treating scars and blood vessels. In addition, LASERs can remove unwanted body hair with results that last for months or even years.
How It Works
LASERs emit a powerful beam of light that gets absorbed by the skin. The light is converted to heat, which destroys cells in the targeted area of the skin without injuring surrounding tissue. LASERs can be either ablative or non–ablative. Ablative LASERs vaporize targeted areas of the skin’s top layer leaving the deeper layers of the skin intact. The heat produced during the LASER treatment also stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers. As the skin heals and regenerates, it appears smoother and younger–looking.
Non–ablative LASERs work beneath the skin’s surface, while keeping the top skin layer relatively unaffected. This LASER technology makes it possible to heat and destroy blood vessels associated with spider veins or vascular birthmarks. Non–ablative LASER treatments also stimulate the growth of collagen, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and scars.
Fractional LASER technology combines treatment of deeper skin layers with faster healing time, therefore they have become one of the most popular treatment modality
To remove unwanted body hair, the light from the LASER is used to destroy the base of the follicle, where hair growth begins.
What the Treatment Involves
LASER procedures can last from 10 to 90 minutes, depending on the type of skin condition and the area being treated. During the procedure, the LASER’s tip will gently touch your skin as it delivers precisely controlled pulses of light to the targeted areas of treatment. Your skin will receive a light spray of coolant before each LASER pulse. You may be given a local anesthesia before the procedure to minimize discomfort.
After the procedure, you may experience some redness and mild swelling. In addition, your skin tone may temporarily appear lighter or darker in the treated area. Recovery can range from a few hours to several days depending on how extensive the procedure is. Sun exposure of the treated areas should be avoided for several weeks after the treatment.
Some skin conditions require more than one LASER treatment for best results. Maintenance treatments may also be needed.
No single LASER device treats all skin conditions. Dr. Panoutsopoulou, will determine and select the LASER device for the right treatment for your skin. She may combine LASER treatment with other modalities to optimize the effect and achieve the best possible results.
