VASCULAR BIRTHMARK TREATMENTS

Vascular birthmarks are divided into hemangiomas and vascular malformations. They present at birth or early in life as single lesions or multiple lesions over the skin surface. They can be small in size with benign course or large in size with life threating potential in some rare cases.

Depending on their location and morphological characteristics vascular birthmarks may need further evaluation with imaging tests (CT/MRI, ultrasound, X-Ray), blood work-up or evaluation by other specialties such as ENT, cardiology and ophthalmology.

The treatment of vascular birthmarks depends on many factors and may include:

  • topical treatments (timolol or corticosteroid topical creams)
  • systemic treatments (propranolol or/and corticosteroids)
  • LASER treatment (using pulsed-dye laser, PDL)
  • Surgical excision
  • Arterial embolization (for the life threating vascular birthmarks)

Dr. Panoutsopoulou will examine your skin lesions and will discuss with you the appropriate treatment plan and management of your vascular birthmarks.

To find out if you could benefit from any of these treatments, schedule your consultation today.
